Message from the NTIO Director

Dear Alumni,

I am very proud to organize a reception for the Taiwanese alumni of Dutch universities; you only decide to do that if you are convinced that there is a broad interest in attending such event. I am also pleased to be able to announce the birth of the NESO Alumni database.

The NESO staff is working very hard for Dutch universities in order to increase cooperation with Taiwanese institutions of Higher Education and for encouraging Taiwanese students to consider to study in The Netherlands. But, they also feel to be responsible for the well being of the students while being in Holland and they are always ready to try to solve their problems, which regrettably indeed sometimes occur.

I personally do not see the growing number of Taiwanese at Dutch universities as successful business. For me it is more important that the students are successful in their study and that they were happy while being in my country. I would like them having a good feeling about their stay and therewith becoming an eternal friend of the Dutch.

The number of students included in the database and the number of them expected to attend the December 2003 Alumni reception brings me to the conclusion that we did pretty well and that there is a substantial and growing number of Dutch ambassadors in Taiwan. That is a highly satisfactory conclusion.

I would like to thank you for your positive attitude towards my country and your willingness from time to time to help us to achieve our goals.

Dank U wel
